Why are Norwich terriers so difficult to find?
There are simply fewer people breeding Norwich terriers. In 2020, 38% fewer pups were born than in 2008. This is the reason why we prioritize puppy placement with those who are willing to show and breed. We need help keeping the breed alive. If this might be something you might be interested in and you live in Northern California, we'd be happy to mentor you. (Source: NTCA, 2021)

CH Verdant's Taki the Tiny Greek x GHC Verdant's Kantankerous Karissa

Ian did really well for his first show weekend. He beat 45 other puppies of different breeds to earn BPIS. We have high hopes for Ian in the coming years because he loves showing his stuff.

Puppies from Verdant Norwich
As of January 2022, we have over 85 families on our wait list for puppies.  We think it will take about 4 years to meet the current demand for pet puppies. If you are interested in purchasinhg a companion pet, please go to the questionnaire page and fill out an application.  We use these forms to place prospective buyers on our wait list. Because Norwich pups are so difficult to find, we hold true to the order of families waiting. If you have submitted an adoption form and heard back from us, you are on the list and we will do our best to honor your request.

If you are willing to work with us to have a pup shown to championship, you will advance to the top of the list.  Our hope is that by prioritizing those who want to breed and show, more healthy Norwich can be provided to the public.  If you have never shown before and live in the Northen Calfornia area, we would be more than happy to help you learn about breeding and showing.  If you are interested in a show dog and would want to have a professional handler to show your dog, we would also move you up the list as well. We suggest you contact us via email or phone to get more details about showing and breeding.

Verdant's Lucky Levi at about 8 weeks old.  We called him Buddha for a time because he had such a huge belly. He is looking very handsome now that he is 6 months old and will be shown the first time at the Norwich Terrier Club of America Specialty show in May 2018. See him showing off this belly in the photo below.

Fergie whelped 4 pups on October 13th, 2017.  The 3 boys and 1 girl are already spoken for.  One is headding to Napa, one to Laguna Beach and one to Pasadena.  The pups will go to their new familes at the beginning of the new year.

Bonnie (Verdant's Chica Bonita) free-whelped 6 puppies (3 female and 3 male) on 6 May, 2017.  This is a huge litter, our biggest ever.  The sire is GCH Michans Mick Like a Rolling Stone. Bonnie did it.  She weaned all 6 pups and they are fat and sassy.  They each weigh about 3 pounds.  They are all spoken for and will go to loving homes.

Bonnie's pups, litter of 6, at 1 month old. All are doing very well.  Most have grown from 6 oz. at birth to about 2 lbs as of June 3, 2017.

Talulah recently free whelped a litter of 2 puppies. Sadly, the second puppy boy was breech and stuck in the birth canal and we simply couldn't get it out soon enough to revive him. Whelping a litter is not for the faint of heart. The puppy's sire hails from Pennsylavania, GCH Fentondale Rudy Rooster's Rabbit Ridge.

Verdant's Matta Hari Tiny Dancer- Best Beginner Puppy at the 2017 Sacramento Kennel Club. We are pleased that Jesus Reyes, our hairdresser and co-owner of Hari's mom allowed us to breed Connie. She produced two lovely pups.  One placed with a young couple in the Stockton area.

Boonie had 5 pups on Sunday morning.  She delivered at 57 days, which is about 3 days earlier than typical.  One male pup was about 75% of the weight of the other 4 pups.  He is now gaining weight and we hope for the best.  In total, there were 3 males and 2 females.  The litter was free-whelped, meaning that Bonnie delivered on her own.  When possible we always let the bitch deliver on her own.  This is Bonnie's second litter being free-whelped.

Some of you have asked for a picutre of Bentley (GCH TALIESIN DOUBLE BRASS), the sire of Bonnie's pups.  Annie, Bentley's owner, sent this photo of him.

Bonnie is doing very well with her pregnancy.  She is getting quite large and is starting to seek out pillows to relieve the pressure of the growing pups.  She has a week and a half, or there abouts to go.

BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING A NORWICH ON THE INTERNET. As members of the Norwich Terrier Club on America and leaders in the Northern California Norwich Tierrier Club, we are concerned about our breed. Great job Dana Esquibel for helping to perserve our breed. Norwich are not easy to come by and you may need to wait some time to get one of these wonderful and spirited little guys, but it's worth it.  Please check out this link to see a persistent issue with our breed:

https://norwichterrierclub.org/norwich-terrier-buyers-guide/

We also would like to refer you to this very accurate, in our opinion, video from Discovery Channel's Animal Planet.  It helps to explain our breed; and, really it's pretty much on the money:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkiBPFrYSuo

As an aside, we try always to have our females whelp naturally.  Sometimes we lose a pup, but seeing a mom come home from the vet knocked out from anesthetic is not what we like. Some of our fellow breeders disagree with our descion, but if one of our girls is in trouble we head straight to our vet. We also health test all our breeding stock to make certain we have the most healthy pups we can.
